I now work at Camect, Inc. building a smart network video recorder that will make IP cameras smart, simple, and accessible anywhere, in a secure and privacy-focused way.
Before Camect, I spent 12.5 years(!) having fun leading the team that rebuilt the crawl system at Google and drastically expanded the scale, freshness, and comprehensiveness of Google's web crawl.
Before Google, I spent four years working at Yahoo!. For most of that time, I worked in Yahoo!'s e-commerce group building a neat high-performance programmable proxy system used to integrate brand-name merchants into Yahoo! Shopping. Shortly before I left Yahoo! I also built the prototype of Yahoo!'s product search.
Before Yahoo!, I was a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon's School
of Computer Science. I finished my Ph.D. in 1998.
As you might be able to guess, my professional interests include
large scale distributed systems and electronic commerce. I also
used to dabble in operating systems and mobile computing, but I have
not done much in either area recently.
